Duties and Responsibilities

3.1 Practice nursing in accordance with professional values and moral

principles and maintains

confidentiality as appropriate.

3.2 Ensures staff perfornance working within his

/ her scope of

professional is line with facility, policies, procedures and standards.

3.3 Ensure staff perfornance of nursing practice is supported by

nursing knowledge, research and reflective practice.

3.4 Promotes and environment which maximize patient’s by utilizing

infection control practices and patient’s

safety programs.

3.5 Perform other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of her

knowledge, skills and abilities as assigned

and delegated in

accordance with hospital policy.

3.6 Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess,

plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.

3.7 Prepares and administers ( orally, subcutaneously, through an IV)

and records prescribed medication. Reports adverse reactions to

medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding

the administration of medications or treatments in accordance with

the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed

registered nurse.

3.8 Provides basic bedside care.

3.9 Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches

patients and significant others how to manage their illness / injury,

by explaining: post treatment home care needs, diets / nutrition /

exercise programs, self – administration of medicating and

rehabilitation.

3.10 Records patient’s medical information and vital signs.

3.11 Orders, interprets and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and

assess patient’s condition.

3.12 Takes samples for lab work, orders prescribed lab work.

3.13 Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and

treatment of patient.

3.14 Responds to live – saving situations based upon nursing standards

and protocol.

3.15 Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely,

in a timely manner, in appropriate format and on the appropriate

form.

3.16 Applies Hemodynamic, phlebotomy and IV protocols.

3.17 Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and

interprets and records electronic displays, such as intracranial

pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures and

cardiac rhythms from cardiac monitors, respirators ventilators,

manometers, oxygen pumps, etc.

3.18 Monitors catheters, leads and tubing for proper placement and

functioning.

3.19 Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring /

file support equipment shows adverse symptomatology.

3.20 Acts as patient advocate by supporting the basic rights, values and

beliefs of the patient.

3.21 Communications to family / significant others appropriate

information on patient’s condition.

3.22 Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on

assignment setting.

 3.23 Participates in Nursing Continuous

Quality improvement initiatives,

in – service education programs, unit meeting and committee

functions as assigned.

3.24 Maintains appropriate nursing competencies in line with department

of Nursing Competency Guidelines and continues personal

professional development.

3.25 Responsible for safe keeping of narcotics when in-charge.

3.26 Monitor and maintains stock of consumables / clinical supplies.

3.27 Maintain professional license.
