Africa as a continent is characterized by alarming unemployment rate especially among its young population who are not productively engaged. A reason why there is a massive increase of brain-drain among the youths. A key economic quagmire and setback in the continent as we continuously lose our active workforce to other continents..
Why Start in Nigeria?
Nigeria as a country plays a strategic role in the continent of Africa.
Nigeria is the most populated country in the continent
Meaning that the impact of Nigeria negative or positive is significant in the continent.
Background to #TheAfricaWeWantNIGERIA Campaign
The Nigerian youths are dissatisfied with the economic conditions in Nigeria. Especially the issues of unemployment of both the skilled and unskilled.
According to a BBC report, Nigeria is the number three country in the world with the highest number of unemployment at a current rate of 33.3%
Equally, the National Bureau of Statistic affirmed in it’s 2020 report that the country apart from the worrisome unemployment rate is also battling with high increase of underemployment among Nigerian youth
The report further highlighted that the unemployment rate among young people between the ages of 15 to 34 years has increased to 42.5% from the 34.9% in previous quarter (Q2) of 2020.
Further highlight also shows that the Nigerian active working population (between the age of 15 and 64 years) increased with more than five million between June to December 2020.
This is a huge problem. And this is not #TheAfricaWeWantNIGERIA

We at YouthUp Global believe that the right path of every national development is through youth empowerment and as such youth unemployment must be treated as a national state of emergency.
As a movement, we are collaborating with all stakeholders; individuals, organizations, institutions and government to design frameworks to immediately arrest this monster that has held the country and in extension the African continent at ransom.
We believe that a great and prosperous Nigeria is a possible project.
What must be done is the essence of #TheAfricaWeWantNIGERIA Campaign.
A Campaign that will awaken our collective consciousness to the real problem of Nigeria. Yes! when youths are engaged productively, the issues of increasing rate in crime and restiveness wouldn’t be a major discussion. Unemployment has multiple of negative chain reactions.
Therefore, government must take the issue of unemployment seriously and as a national disaster.
There is need to create enabling business environment especially to support the tech-driven ecosystem that is today the anchor of economic growth globally.
The problem of Youth Unemployment, because when a youth is engaged productively, there is a hardly time for criminality.
